Super Tampa = Super Bowl 2009

Thursday May 26, 2005
Super Bowl XLIII is coming to Tampa and Raymond James Stadium on February 1. The Super Bowl has been hosted by Tampa Bay three other times (1984, 1991 & 2001). It's that track record as a Super Bowl site, its pleasant February weather and an variety of outdoor activities that helped Tampa Bay overcome stiff competition from Atlanta and Houston, who had also submitted bids for the 2009 championship game.

(7) Haroon-Pascal Mian says:

What ever Tampa may, or may not be, a Redneck city it is not. Who ever comes here will have great time/party. Google Tampa and you will find all the entertainment you want, or need. World class shopping can be found literally minutes away from Raymond James Stadium @ the International Plaza, as well as up-market hotels, and restaurants. Tampa is home to the 9th largest state school in the U.S.A, i.e. University of South Florida. and you are 20 minutes away from Clearwater, and St.Petersburg beaches. St. Pete also has great museums. And, of course Tampa is home to Busch Gardens, historic Ybor City, and Channel Side for more entertainment. Metro Tampa-Bay area is the largest metropolitan area in Florida.

Personally, I think its b/s the superbowl gets played in florida again. How about sharing the spot with the other NFL teams cities? I want to see the superbowl played outodoors in late january, or early february. Why does it have to be played indoors or in warm weather?

They should rotate it through every NFL team. Only fair.. Florida sucks anyways. You can keep that humidity..

They should play the superbowl outside in a cold weather stadium. They played the 20007-2008 NFC title game in Green Bay when it was snowing and about 10 degrees. That is real football. They should play in Green Bay, Buffalo, New England, Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh. The cold weather stadiums.

I agree with Ray. Tampa is a ‘Dump’. I’m not sure how they pick these cities but they could have come up with a better place than Tampa. They weather is great, I’ll give you that, but as long as you don’t mind walking around all the crack dealers, prostitutes, and homeless people…you’ll love it. I was there last week and it was bad…real bad. Hold on to your purses ‘Super Bowl Fans’.

January 9, 2009 at 12:56 pm
(54) Dorothy says:

Mike and Ray are both idiots. There is always some “questionable” areas in every major city. But there are some fantastic and lovely areas of Tampa. I live in the Orlando area and have been there many times, and I have stayed in the Tampa area many times. Tampa is neither a “redneck” city or a dangerous one. It’s a city — with typical urban problems and advantages. Only a person of limited intelligence or imagination who would slam a whole city based on limited or no experience. Shame on both of you.

(55) Dorothy says:

Mike and Ray are both idiots. I trust that neither of these ‘gentlemen’ has spent any real time exploring all Tampa has to offer. Please don’t let their ignorant comments chase you away from coming to Tampa. Every city has it’s “questionable” areas, but Tampa has a lot of great areas, too! It’s just moronic to slam a whole metropolitan area.

RAY OLSEN…first off…dont come on here acting like 19 year old boy. We have fine restaurants…if you are a big spender…go to Charlies or Berns or Malios…feel free to pick up everyones tab while youre there! Also, Tampa is growing incredibly fast…its close to the beach and Miami, there is plenty of night life…and a lot of prestigious neighborhoods. And if you actually have enough money to fly down here and rent a hotel…try renting a car and drive down bayshore or hit up harbour island, davis island, avalon, or Anna Maria…there are plenty more I can name…but while EVERY CITY has a lower income neighborhood doesnt mean that it is not good enough.

I am thrilled that Tampa is again hosting the Super Bowl it brings a lot of revenue to town, but what I hate is that the scalpers have bought up all the tickets and have a 300% mark up on them and the loyal fans can’t afford to get them. It really sucks that these venues let that happen, or that the state laws allow it. Its too bad cause my taxes built that stadium and I can’t even afford to go to it.

Apple Vacations’ is offering nonstop flights via USA3000 Airlines from Pittsburgh to Tampa Bay for the big game. Flight leaves at 7am from Pittsburgh International Airport on the day of the big game - so you’ll arrive in plenty of time to soak up some Florida sunshine before you catch Superbowl XLIII and watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Arizona Cardinals. $1000 per day??? Whaa??? I live by the stadium! Yeah… Dale Mabry and Columbus is 2 block from Ray Jay. 2 LONG blocks! Your talkin about a 1/2 mile or more walk! I got friends coming in from PA that were able to find parking for under $1000 for 3 days, and they’re just a few hundred feet from Ray Jay’s back yard, in the middle of all the partying! $1000 per day is crazy for being that far! WOW!!! Why is my home town gettin greedy?

(107) Ron Townsend says:

I have to agree with Ray Olsen.I have to got there at least 3-4 times a year for my work and believe me it is painful! Tampa is the pits. Olsen is right, Krystals and Waffle Houses galore, telephone poles, fat people everywhere and then there is the weather…sure Feb is nice, only month that you can crawl out of your holes. Why else would they cover up the baseball stadium. Tampa citizens need to get out their alligator infested, strip mall environment and go see “real cities”…Ybor City? Are you for real? That is your best shot? It is not a Superbowl worthy city. People are dumber than stones, look at the reasons they give here as to why they think it is a cool place. Keep the SB in real cities, like New Orleans, LA, Miami…and don’t get me going about Jackslumville!!
