Guide Review: DeLorme Street Atlas and Earthmate GPS

Friday January 13, 2006
DeLorme Street Atlas and Earthmate GPS      My niece has a funny story of one of their first trips in their new Toyota Prius. Her husband was trying out the onboard GPS system to guide them to a nice restaurant in a neighboring town. What the GPS system could not anticipate is the holiday parade that was blocking a major roadway... and access to the restaurant. Still these devices are nice to have if you travel frequently. Not all of us can afford an automobile equipped with a GPS system, but if you already own a laptop, pocket PC or PDA, I have a great affordable alternative for you — DeLorme Street Atlas and Earthmate GPS. My husband has used it with his work for a couple of years, but our experience with it over the holidays has me completely sold. Where else can you get a map and GPS system for an initial investment of under $200 and update the map for as little as about $35 a year?
