Hurricane Preparation 2006: Prescription Drugs

Monday May 22, 2006
It is the recommendation of emergency planners that you have a two-week supply of prescription drugs on hand in the event a hurricane strikes your area. Power may remain out for days, and depending on area damage, pharmacys may not reopen for weeks. Discuss with your doctor the shelf life of the drugs you take and how they should be stored. If your medication requires refrigeration, there are special medical coolers available that will keep your medication at the proper temperature for extended periods of time.
