Hurricane Preparation 2006: Register NOW for Assistance

Wednesday May 24, 2006
Whether you are a person with special needs — perhaps someone that depends on power to run medical equipment — or a senior citizen without transportation, you may need assistance should a hurricane threaten your area and you are forced to evacuate. Each county provides special shelters that are equipped to handle those with special medical needs, but you must be registered in advance. Transportation is also provided to those who are pre-registered. Although registration requirements vary from county to county, most describe special needs as frail, elderly (over 60), medically needy or disabled. Now is the time to complete a special needs registration form through your county emergency management office.
