Hurricane Preparation 2006: Lots and lots of ICE!

Thursday May 25, 2006
A reader left a comment on another hurricane preparation blog. He has lived his entire life in Florida — over 60 years — and says, "One thing that is IMPORTANT — “ICE” LOTS OF ICE, freeze water in bottles add a little salt or sugar or just plain tea will last longer [1/2 tsp] 2-3 days before the storm is scheduled to hit get “ICE” IN BAGS if you have a freezer put it in there, if you don’t use a “picnic ice cooler” line with news paper to insulate the cooler."

I couldn't agree more about the ice! The first time we were without power last year we lost everything in our freezer. This year, during hurricane season, we are keeping two-thirds of it filled with bags of ice. I'm not sure about adding salt, sugar or tea... but we do freeze bottles of water. I never thought about insulating our cooler either, but it sounds like a great idea. Thanks to "williams" for sharing!
