Not far from the glitzy world of theme parks and other tourist attractions, yet far enough... there is a different "world" — a glimpse of Florida before it was swallowed by commercialism and urban sprawl. I like to call them "nature's theme parks." They are Florida's State Parks and whether you live in Florida, or are a visitor, you may not know that they are really interesting places to visit. Don't be fooled into thinking that Florida's State Parks are all trees, nature trails and wildlife. Many also reveal an interesting glimpse into the people, places and events that have shaped this great state. Beginning today, and continuing every Thursday over the summer, I will be introducing you to one Florida State Park a week. Considering there are 161, I will only able to offer just a small glimpse into Florida's award winning state park system, but hopefully, I can inspire some of you to explore more of them on your own. This week, instead of a nature trail, you'll travel hand-laid brick streets and hear the clang of nearby street cars. The Ybor City Museum State Park is situated in a downtown historic district that, in its heyday, used to be a vibrant immigrant community.
