Florida's Labor Day Forecast
Flanked by two tropical systems — Hurricane Gustav, now a Category 3 storm headed for the northern Gulf states and Tropical Storm Hanna, threatening the southeastern Bahamas — much of Florida is experiencing a higher than usual chance for rain over this weekend. While Gustav's projected path remains west of Key West, because of the storm, the National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm watch Friday evening for the Lower Florida Keys, from west of the Seven Mile Bridge to the Dry Tortugas. A tropical storm watch means the area could experience tropical storm conditions with the next 36 hours, more specifically projected sustained winds of about 40 mph with higher gusts from this afternoon through early Sunday.
Meanwhile Floridians and visitors are asked to monitor both storms closely. Presently South Florida is within the possible path of Tropical Storm Hannah. Hopefully, most everyone still has preparations in place from Tropical Storm Fay, but if not, you are being asked to complete preparations this weekend.
Of course, if you're in an area under a storm watch, you should remain indoors. But, if it's raining where you are and you're looking for adventure, try these things to do when it rains; and, if you're driving, follow these tips for staying safe on the highway.
