Camping in Florida: The Florida Keys

Sunday July 5, 2009
Relaxing in a hammock at a beachfront campsite in the Florida Keys.Has your life of commutes, cubicles and meetings got you down? Do you feel like you need to kickback and relax? Are you short on money? I've got the perfect destination! The Florida Keys... and, camping is the key to affordability. Of course, whether you camp or not, you can snag some of the best off-season rates in the Florida Keys between May and October. But, not only is camping a bargain, how else can you have such a relaxing get-back-to-nature experience?

Key Lime Pie is celebrated in Key West and nearly every restaurant has their own version. Is it really possible to fix this tart tropical treat while camping? About.com's Camping Guide, David Sweet, says this fantastic dessert can be easily be prepared at the campground using a 12-inch Dutch oven. It looks easy and sounds yummy. Why not give it a try?

Good post. I have camped in many places throughout Florida, but never in the Keys even though I’ve been itching to. I have been thinking I would probably wind up camping in Bahia Honda or John Pennekamp because you always hear about those parks — but after reading your post, I think I will try Long Key instead, and within the next year! Thanks for the info.
