Look What's Cropping Up in Florida

A corn maze just might be the last thing you would expect to crop up in Florida, but each fall that's exactly what happens about 30 miles northwest of Orlando at Scott's Maze Adventures. Scott's Corn Maze at Long & Scott Farm in Mount Dora opens to the general public tomorrow — Saturday, October 3 — and will remain open weekends through the end of November.

Each year a different themed adventure is crafted from the cornstalks -- this year's theme is "weather" and how it affects the farm. You can get lost in a giant snowflake, go inside a "cool" sun or make your way through a thunderstorm of corn. Throughout the seven acres of pathways in the maze, find pictures, clues and games to make learning all about the weather fun. Take a picnic or enjoy hot dogs, pizza and more provided by food vendors. There is also a playground and a catch-and-release fishing pond for the kids, hayrides and a market offering fresh produce.

Why not plan a day or two in the area where you can also enjoy shopping in nearby Mount Dora with some of the best antique shopping in Florida and a wide array of fine bed and breakfasts. Also in the area is Renninger's Twin Markets, one of the largest flea and antique markets of its kind in the Southeast.
