St. Augustine has survived five centuries of history to stand as this nation's oldest city — it was founded 42 years before the English colonized Jamestown and 55 years before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. Its history began with exploration; now you can explore its history. A good place to begin is the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Musuem. Like climbing the ladder of success, climbing the 219 spiraling stairs to the top of the lighthouse will take effort, but the view overlooking Florida's ancient city makes it completely worthwhile.
