Bollywood Oscar

Tampa has been chosen as the 2014 host city for the 15th annual International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony, more commonly known as the Bollywood Oscars. Next spring — April 24-26 — nearly 30,000 are expected to converge on Tampa for a week of over 30 special events and parties and the televised awards. Although details will be worked out in the months ahead, it is likely film stars will walk the customary green carpet into the Raymond James Stadium for the awards ceremony.

This is the first time in its history that the awards will be held in the United States. Some might wonder then, why Tampa? This isn't Tampa's first time to welcome a major event. The city has hosted four Super Bowls (1984, 1991, 2001 & 2009); and, last year successfully navigated security and politics when the Republican National Convention came to town. Additionally, Tampa has an active Indian community that has fully supported Tampa's bid.
