New Exit Numbers on Florida's Highways

In January, 2002 the Florida Department of Transportation began the task of changing the exit numbers of Interstate highways from consecutive numbers to mile-post numbers. For two years the exit signs will display both numbers, but meanwhile this change may prove confusing to drivers using old maps or billboard directions that have yet to be changed. Find the new exit numbers here.

Ca d'Zan Again Open To the Public

Sarasota, FL - The winter home of circus magnate, John Ringling, is again gleaming and open to visitors. The home reopened to the public after a six-year, $15 million renovation – 10 times the original cost of the mansion.

Ca d'Zan – which means "House of John" in Venetian dialect – was the 22,000-square-foot winter home of John Ringling, and was bequeathed to the state when Ringling died in 1936 at the age of 70.

Also located on the property and open to the public are the Ringling Museum of Art and the Museum of the Circus. More on the museums.

Bok Tower Re-Opening

At 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, the Historic Bok Sanctuary will re-open. Hurricane Charley heavily damaged the historic landscape gardens on August 13 and was fortunate not to receive a significant amount of damage from Hurricane Frances. Officials are keeping a watchful eye on Hurricane Ivan.

“While not all areas of the garden will be accessible immediately, visitors can enjoy the cleared garden areas and the beautiful carillon music of the world-famous Singing Tower,” remarks Robert P. Sullivan, president of Historic Bok Sanctuary. “Although timing is coincidental, we feel September 11 is a fitting day to re-open.”
