Dawn sent me three photos from
her family's trip to the Everglades in December, 2003. She says, "That
trip was so much fun. I can't think of anything we particularly enjoyed more
than anything else. If I had to choose, I guess it would have to be the
wildlife the birds and gators." (As
evidenced by these photos.) |
| Thank goodness for zoom lens! You wouldn't dare get as close as this seems to a live alligator. You should never get closer than 30 feet to an alligator farther than that if it hisses or opens its mouth defensively. Alligators lumber along when they drag their tails, but by using what is called a "high walk" walking on their toes with their tails high in the air they can actually run up to 30 miles per hour (38 kph) for short distances... just long enough to grab you. | |
