Primate World: Bornean Orangutan
Lowry Park Zoo

Tampa
, Florida

These camera-shy orangutans sit next to a waterfall.

This longhaired red ape is one of two subspecies of orangutan. It has extremely long arms to move freely among the trees. The male orangutan is known to live solitary. The females with young may form small groups. Offspring are weaned from the mother at three years and remain dependent on her until they are seven to ten years of age.
