Native Florida: Red Wolf
Lowry Park Zoo
Tampa
, Florida

Once plentiful in the southeastern United States, the red wolf is now extinct in the wild. Red wolves do not form packs like other wolf species. Once paired, they seem to maintain their bond throughout the year with their young staying with the parents throughout the first year and sometimes during the second year as well. Their hearing is extremely sensitive and their sense of smell may be 100 times better than humans.
