Wallaroo Station: Eastern Gray Kangaroos
Lowry Park Zoo
Tampa
, Florida

Visitors are encouraged to feed and pet the kangaroos at the Kangaroo Walkabout. See the large hind feet? These tend to be over a foot and a half long and very wide. This is why they are called "macropods." They use their tails for balance while hopping and for a prop when standing still.

Native to the eastern Australian continent, they live in social groups called "mobs." The mature male is the leader and lives with two or three younger males and two or three females with their young.
