Launch of America's first man in space from Cape Canaveral aboard the Mercury-Redstone.


John Glenn Parade
February 23, 1962

Astronaut John Glenn is handed a "Well Done" sign by local Cocoa Beach residents, as he, Mrs. Glenn and Vice President Johnson parade toward Cape Canaveral. The Friendship 7 flight made him the first American to circle the earth and was part of the Mercury project.



Mercury Monument Dedication
November 10, 1964

The 13-foot-high astronomical symbol for the planet Mercury lies atop a cross symbolizing the sign of valor while the number "7" in the center signifies the nations seven original astronauts –
Carpenter, Cooper, Glenn, Grissom, Schirra, Shepard
and Slayton.

September 12, 1966

Gemini 11 lifts off from Kennedy Space Center with astronauts Conrad and Gordon aboard.



Apollo 6 Launch
April 4, 1968

NASA's second unmanned Apollo/Saturn V space vehicle launch. The mission was to qualify the launch vehicle for future manned flights. It eventually sent Apollo astronauts on their lunar voyage. The first was launched November 9, 1967.
