| Key Deer |
| These "toy" members of the white tail deer family are confined to Florida's Keys, with most of the population on Big Pine Key. It is thought that they "miniaturized" as a result of their reduced range, where smaller rather than larger deer survived to breed. In 1947, they numbered just 50, but protection has increased their numbers to 300 or more today. |
