How To Make a Shell Angel

By Dawn Henthorn, About.com

Shell Angel CraftCompliments of Dawn Henthorn
This craft project is simple enough for children and nice enough to hang on the fanciest holiday tree. Wouldn't this be a great way to preserve the shells from your Florida vacation at the beach! This is a lovely gift for grandparents and can be hung on the wall all year round for those who need a special "angel" to watch over them.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: One hour or less

Here's How:

  1. Use scallop shell for angel's "dress."
  2. Wrap small piece of white cloth around wood bead and fasten at the bottom with pipe cleaner for "head."
  3. Glue bead "head" onto back of scallop shell and bend pipe cleaner around to front to make "arms."
  4. Glue small amount of Spanish moss (or other hair material) on top of head for "hair."
  5. Double raffia over and over to make "wings" and glue to back of scallop shell at base of head.
  6. Glue small ribbon bow to front at base of head.
  7. Glue small loop of ribbon or gold tie on back of head for hanging.
  8. Optional finishing touch: Glue small sprig of dried flowers in hair.
  9. Optional finishing touch: Add a small spot of powered blush to face for "cheeks."

Tips:

  1. Make sure to supervise young children.
