Located in the Asia section of Disney's Animal Kingdom, the mountain is nearly 200 feet high and makes an impressive landmark seen from various points in the park. The ride takes guests on a nearly mile-long adventure of steep climbs, breathtaking plunges and even backwards slides with a surprise encounter along the way.
The "expedition" begins as guests are transportated to a distant world of exploration and the mythical village of Serka Zong. The yeti's role as protector of the sacred mountain is reinforced with a detailed environment of prayer flags, intricately carved totems and a garden of stone carvings of the yeti clutching the mountain.
The Himalayan Escapes tour company entice their guest explorers into embarking on a rugged train journey to the mystical Everest. Stops along the way include Norbu and Bob's booking office to obtain permits and Tashi's General Store and Bar for needed supplies. Now equipped to conquer the mountain, guests board the Anandapur Rail Service. This 34-passenger industrial railway, once used to transport tea, is now destined for the foot of Mount Everest.
The steam train and its riders encounter warnings of impending danger, yet roars ahead ascending steep hills, crossing a teetering bridge, diving into shimmering glacier valleys and climbing snow-capped peaks. Suddenly it screeches to a halt near a gnarled mass of twisted metal it's the tracks that the yeti have torn apart. Now the train races backward through darkened mountain caverns and icy canyons to an inevitable face-to-muzzle showdown with the towering yeti. In the final pulse-pounding moments, the train accelerates forward through a fog and plunges down 80-feet to dart in and out of the mountain toward its final destination... the train station.
