FREE Things To Do in North Florida

North Florida offers a wide variety of things to do... some of them free — from the beaches to the state's capital of Tallahassee and from Jacksonville to the University of Florida's campus in Gainesville.

One of my favorite "free" things to do is visit flea markets. North Florida is home to two of Florida's largest — Webster's Flea Market and Waldo's Farmer's & Flea Market.

Webster's is open every Monday with free parking and admission. Waldo's is open Saturday and Sunday, but also has an Antique Village that is open daily.

Additional free things to do in North Florida are listed by city:

Amelia Island

Amelia Island's Fernandina Beach is a post-card perfect destination that doesn't have to wreck your budget. Whether you see the sights, window shop in the unique downtown, or stroll the historic district in a self-guided walking tour... none of it will cost you a penny.

And, if you're looking to spend the day at the beach, consider Main Beach and Peter's Point offer free parking lots; and, South Fernandina Beach access has limited free street parking.

Florida Museum of Natural History
Admission to museum free to the public.

Museum of Contemporary Art
Free Wednesday night "Art Walk" from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Free Sunday Family Days for families with children age 18 and under with accompanying adult.

Pensacola's beaches are some of the best on the Gulf Coast. While it may cost you a small toll (usually around a $1) to navigate access to the town of Pensacola Beach, you will find free parking at Casino Beach. Once you park, the Pensacola Beach Trolley can take you where you want to go... and it's free! The Trolley runs Friday through Sunday from Memorial Day through the end of September.

National Museum of Naval Aviation
In addition to free parking and admission, enjoy Blue Angels practice Tuesday and Wednesday mornings March through November. Also, on Wednesdays there is an autograph session with the pilots inside the museum.

Veteran's Memorial Park Wall South
This memorial is a one-half scale model of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The park honors Veterans of all America's wars.

Museum of Florida History
Free admission any time.

Tour Florida's Capitol Complex for FREE
Tallahassee is Florida's capital city, where the state's law makers meet to conduct the Sunshine State's official business. The old and new capitol buildings are within the same block with guided and self-guided tours available for free.

Tour hours for the old capitol building are offered daily except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Reservations at least two weeks in advance for guided tours are encouraged. For more information call 850-487-1902.

All guided tours for the new capitol require reservations, and tours during the legislative session — March through April — require reservations made months in advance. Tours daily except New Year's Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. For more information call 850-488-6167.
