The Baltimore Orioles will swing into action this spring for the second training season at their newly renovated Florida home — Ed Smith Stadium in beautiful Sarasota. The Orioles came from Fort Lauderdale Stadium where they spent 14 spring training seasons. Interestingly, they spent one spring at Ed Smith Stadium in 1991.
Ed Smith Stadium opened in 1989 and has a seating capacity of 7,500. The stadium is the centerpiece of a 53-acre City of Sarasota Sports Complex that has previously been the spring training home of the Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds. It has been reported that the Baltimore Orioles signed a 30-year lease with the city of Sarasota; and, in return, the facility would be renovated after the 2010 season.
Single-game tickets for the Orioles' home spring training games are available online and there is even a "print-at-home" option so you no longer have to wait in that will-call line.
