St. Pete Beach

By , About.com Guide

It's St. Pete Beach... not St. Petersburg Beach: Yes, St. Pete Beach is correct. In 1994, the name was officially changed to what people had been calling it for decades. St. Pete Beach is a barrier-island community adjacent to the major city of St. Petersburg. The big city and smaller beach community are joined by two causeways. St. Pete Beach is a seven-mile stretch from Pass-a-Grille to Blind Pass.
Limited public access: The beach along St. Pete Beach is wide, long and renourished — a great beach by most standards. Instant beach access is a perk of staying at one of the many hotels, motels or resorts on the beach side. Otherwise, public access is fairly limited considering it's serving a large metropolitan area and parking is just as limited.
Location: St. Pete Beach Access is located at 4700 Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach and Upham Beach is located off Beach Plaza between 66th and 70th Avenues at the north end of St. Pete Beach.
Parking: There are two metered parking areas. Off Gulf Boulevard between 44th and 50th Avenues is known as St. Pete Beach Access. Upham Beach parking is off Beach Plaza between 66th and 70th Avenues.
Hours: Beach access is between sunrise and sunset.
Facilities: St. Pete Beach Access has concessions, picnic tables, restrooms and showers. Upham Beach has only restrooms and showeers.
