Overview:
Inspired by the artist, the new Salvador Dali Museum has been designed specifically for this collection. Although in a waterfront location, the museum was built to protect the priceless art and the design has already attracted world attention. AOL Travel News listed it as "one of the top buildings you have to see before you die."
The exterior is a work of art in itself, featuring more than 900 triangular-shaped glass panels that provide a unique view of St. Petersburg's picturesque waterfront. The geodesic glass structure is the only one of its kind in North America. No two glass panels are identical.
Inside, the main architectural focus is the Helical Staircase, a spiral that ascends to the third floor galleries. It resembles a strand of DNA, significant because Dali recognized the helix as evidence of the divine in nature.
The Collection:
Dali's excellence as a creative artist is evident in the oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, graphics, photos, sculptures, and objets d'art featured in this collection.
