Guide Review - The Florida Dog Lover's Companion

Dogs are not picky where they go, but humans should be picky where they let them. The authors of The Florida Dog Lover's Companion emphasize picking up after your pet — that's a standard common courtesy. More importantly though, the message that Sally Deneen and Robert McClure are trying to get across is why try to sneak in where your pet isn't welcome? There really isn't a need to since an increasing number of establishments are fido-friendly. They should know, they research and cover them all.

The writers, along with their canine companion Maggie Dog, have dug deep to discover the places dogs dig in the Sunshine State. They have sniffed out places for people and their pooches to eat, sleep and simply have a romping good time. More than 660 parks, beaches, playgrounds, and forests are reviewed and rated on a one- to four-paw scale. Helpful hints, easy-to-use maps and precise directions are included to every doggie destination.

Although my dog leads far from a "ruff" life, I can see where I've been depriving him of some real divine doggie discoveries. I had no idea that we could head to the roof to dine on filet mignon in Tampa, take a carriage ride in Palm Beach or set sail on a scenic boat tour in Orlando. Aside from the usual dog parks and pet shops, I found the "doggie diversions" the most interesting portions of the book and I tended to skip from one to the other with anticipation of finding more tail-wagging fun. Don't "paws"... pick up this book today!
