What Disney character has visitors to Tokyo DisneySea waiting in line for up to 24 hours just to say hi? If you guessed Mickey Mouse, or the Disney princesses, you would be wrong. Duffy the Bear, Mickey's hand-stitched maritime pal is all the rage in Japan, and made his debut at Disney World in 2010. Duffy's fans wait for in line for hours just to catch a glimpse of him in person; or to be the first to purchase a new outfit for their very own plush Duffy to wear.
Who is Duffy?
Duffy the bear was born in 2004, when Minnie Mouse created him as a gift for Mickey. Duffy acts as a travel companion and comfort to Mickey when he is away from home. Look closely and you will see some of Minnie's special touches; Duffy's face is shaped like Mickey, and he has iconic Mickey heads on his paws.
Mickey became so fond of Duffy, he decided to share him with guests visiting the theme parks; beginning in October 2010, Duffy can be spotted in Epcot at Disney World.
Where to find Duffy in Disney World:
Look for Duffy outside the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot; you'll be able to spend some time with him in person and snap a special photo or two. Didn't bring your camera? Disney Photopass photographers are standing by to capture the moment.
If you want a special souvenir, you can bring home your very own Duffy the Bear; plush Duffy bears are available in select Epcot retail stores. Don't forget to make like Mickey and bring Duffy along as you travel!
Tip: Duffy is not sold online, so pick up a plush Disney bear of your very own when you visit Disney World.
